
2009 Men's Dinner Against Cancer
St. Louis, November 23, 2009 –– The St. Louis Men’s Group Against Cancer raised over $200,000 at a charitable dinner at the Ameristar Casino featuring legendary Missouri coach and cancer survivor Norm Stewart as keynote speaker. In addition to Stewart and Men’s Group Committee member and dinner MC Guy Phillips of KYKY-FM, other sports personalities in attendance were Martin Kilcoyne, Darryl Strawberry, Tom Lawless, Jay Randolph Sr., Ron Kulpa, Steve Stipanovich, Jim Kennedy, Al Hrabosky, Rich Grawer, Dave Phillips and Bill McDermott.
A highlight of the event was a video presentation illustrating the charities and those that benefit from the event’s proceeds.
In the past, the event’s proceeds have been donated to 21 local cancer-related charities dedicated to research, prevention and care of cancer patients and their families in the St. Louis area. Charities that have received funds included Camp Rainbow; Ronald McDonald House; The Wellness Community; Children’s Miracle Network (for St. Louis Children’s and Cardinal Glennon Children’s hospitals); American Cancer Society Hope Lodge; Sisters of St. Joseph’s Carondelet; SSM St. Joseph Health Center Cancer Services; St. John’s Mercy Medical Center Pediatric Oncology; BJC Breast Health Center; Siteman Cancer Center – Developmental Therapeutics; Siteman Cancer Center – Prostate Cancer Risk; Alvin J Siteman Cancer Center – Prostate Screening; Missouri Baptist Medical Center – Heartland Cancer Research; Missouri Baptist – Palliative Care Service; Missouri Baptist – Cancer Prevention; St. Anthony’s Medical Center Hospice Program – De Greef House; Saint Louis University Cancer Center – Prostate Screening; Friends of Kids with Cancer, Inc.; Gateway to Hope (care of uninsured and underinsured women with breast cancer, through the CarcinAid Foundation); and Hadassah St. Louis (testicular cancer screening program).
The St. Louis Men’s Group Against Cancer is a non-profit, charitable organization that raises money for research, prevention and care for cancer patients and their families. Cancer-related organizations in the St. Louis area receive the net proceeds from the group’s fundraising efforts. To date, the organization has raised more than $3 million.
